Measurements made with today's technology had revealed that between 3 to 30% of sunlight reflected by the sea. Thus, almost all the seven colors that make up the spectrum of sunlight absorbed one by one when penetrating the ocean surface to a depth of 200 meters, except the blue light (see picture at right). Below a depth of 1000 meters, may not find any light. (see above). This scientific fact has been mentioned in verse 40 letters An Nuur about 1400 years ago .. |
General state of the oceans which in described in the book titled Oceans:
The darkness in deep seas and oceans is found at a depth of 200 meters or more. At these depths, encountered virtually no light. Below a depth of 1000 meters, there is no light at all. (Elder, Danny; and John Pernetta, 1991, Oceans, London, Mitchell Beazley Publishers, s. 27)
Now, we already know about the general state of the oceans, the characteristics of living things in it, salt levels, as well as the amount of water, surface area and depth. Submarines and special devices are developed using modern technology, enabling scientists to obtain this information.
Humans could not dive at depths below 40 meters without the aid of special equipment. They could not survive in the ocean in the distant dark, like at a depth of 200 meters. For this reason, scientists only recently have been able to find very detailed information about their marine. However, the statement "darkness in deep seas" is used in Surat an-Nur 1,400 years ago. This is definitely one of the wonders of the Qur'an, because this information has not been declared when there is a device that allows people to dive in the ocean depths.
In addition, the statement in verse 40 letters An Nuur "Or like darkness in the deep sea, covered by waves, upon which the waves (again), on it (again) the clouds ..." directs our attention to the wonders of the Al Qur'an others.
Scientists have recently discovered the existence of waves on the ocean floor, which "occurred at a meeting between the layers of ocean water has a density or mass of different types." Waves are called internal waves cover the deep waters of seas and oceans because at this depth of sea water has a higher density than the layer of water on it. Internal waves have properties such as surface waves. These waves can be broken, just like surface waves. Internal waves can not be seen by human eyes, but its existence can be recognized by studying temperature or salinity changes at certain places. (Gross, M. Grant; 1993, Oceanography, a View of Earth, 6. Edition, Englewood Cliffs, Prentice-Hall Inc., S. 205)
The statements in the Qur'an actually corresponding with the explanation above. Without research, one can only see the waves on the sea surface. Impossible one is able to observe the existence of internal waves on the ocean floor. However, in Surat an-Nur, Allah draws our attention to the types of waves found in the depths of the ocean. Indeed, the fact that scientists have recently discovered this show once again that the Qur'an is the word of God.
